JUNCTION 454 DANCE!
This year the talented music staff of FRSPA, have come up with something a bit different as our Student Fundraiser.
advance tickets $10.00 ad the door $15.00 If your idea of a good time involves, dancing, drinks and live rock and roll then look no further! On Saturday March 3rd the Fall River School of Performing Arts will be hosting their Annual Scholarship Fundraiser at the LWF Community Hall.
For the past three years the fundraiser has been a sit down concert held at the school, but this year the FRSPA staff band, Junction 454, wants to open up the event to the community. The money raised goes towards tuition for FRSPA students who show the most commitment and dedication to both the school and their art.
“The scholarship can benefit someone in a way that might change their life,” says 2015 scholarship recipient Emma LeBlanc, “it can help them realize that music is a real passion you can seriously pursue.”
For over five years, LeBlanc was a dedicated student of both bass and guitar at the school, and FRSPA director Virginia Cox says LeBlanc was one of the inspirations for the school starting the scholarship fundraiser.
“Emma had gotten into the NSCC music program and we wanted to help her out because she showed wonderful musicianship and was a dedicated student and volunteer at the school," said Cox.
Since receiving the scholarship, LeBlanc has graduated from NSCC. She is now an active member in the Halifax music scene, playing with three different bands at local hot spots and teaching bass to other aspiring musicians.
“Everything I’m doing with music now, was made possible by the scholarship and the time I spent with FRSPA,” says LeBlanc.
This year Junction 454 wants to create a fun atmosphere where people can get up, dance and enjoy the music. They’ve compiled a one-time set list that will have you breaking it down all night long with rock, pop and funk hit tunes from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s to current favorites, as well as a little bit of Celtic flavor from fiddle teacher Kimberley Holmes.
Staff singers from jazz, contemporary, and classical backgrounds will also be collaborating with the band to create an eclectic music experience that has something for everyone. Last year’s scholarship recipient, Paige Fraser says the FRSPA fundraiser event is always a great time.
“It’s really enjoyable to see all the teachers work together, and it’s a great way to support the arts in our community,” says Fraser.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase. The LWF Community Hall is located at 843 Fall River Road. Check out frspa.ca to get your advanced tickets!
